The issue of the Algerian government debt has been finally settled with the remittance made on 2 August 2012 to the account of the Ministry of Finance with the Bulgarian National Bank. The transfer amounts to USD 14.3 million and implements a Debt Settlement Agreement between the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria and the Republic of Bulgaria.

The Agreement signed at end-July settles Bulgaria's claims under the intergovernmental covenant of 1986. During the talks held the two sides agreed on the repayment of USD 14.3 million, of which USD 9.5 million debt of 1986, interest thereon and some residual amounts from previous covenants.
