SIMEON DJANKOV: THE PROBLEM IN HEALTHCARE IS NOT THE MONEY BUT THE LACK OF REFORMS
21.11.2012
For a fourth time in November the Bulgarian Medical Association raises the issue about the money in healthcare and this is normal as healthcare is the least reformed sector in Bulgaria, Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov said in an interview for Nova TV. He added that the GERB Government had given BGN 2.8 billion more for healthcare than the previous cabinet which was equal to an increase by BGN 700 million per year. "What have we received for that money? What are the results? I at least have not received any such analyses and they should come from the Ministry of Healthcare and the Bulgarian Medical Association because they are debtors to society", Simeon Djankov stated.
The Finance Minister forecasted that we were going to reach the average European remuneration levels in 10-12 years. As a basis therefor he used the most recent economic growth estimates according to which Bulgaria was fifth in Europe under that indicator. However, for the time being remunerations in Bulgaria are around 45 % of the EU average. "There is no magic Bulgarians to become very rich overnight", Djankov specified.
