SIMEON DJANKOV: EASTERN EUROPE EFFECTS REFORM, SOUTHERN EUROPE GRUMBLES

Countries like Germany, Finland and Bulgaria register some growth, while obeying the deficit rule. This is what Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov says for Spiegel Online. He adds that the terms "savings" and "growth" do not clash with one another. Mr. Djankov points out that it is important to effect the necessary reforms "as we raised the retirement age", and comments that "while Eastern Europe, as a whole, effects the required reforms, Southern Europe does almost nothing but grumbling".
