The Ministry of Finance repaid a 7-year Euro bond issue maturing on 21 March 2023

The Ministry of Finance has paid EUR 1,165.45 million to the holders of 7-year Euro bonds of the Republic of Bulgaria, which are part of the 7-year and 12-year bonds issued on the international capital markets in March 2016 under the Global Medium-Term Note Programme for debt issuance on the international capital markets. The sum includes the nominal value of the bonds amounting to EUR 1,144.0 million and the last payable interest coupon of EUR 21.450 million. Regular interest of EUR 25,5 million was paid under the other tranche – the 12-year bond issue.
The Ministry of Finance has ordered the payment of regular interest coupons under 12-year and 20-year bonds issued on 26 March 2015 on the international capital markets under the Global Medium-Term Note Programme for debt issuance on the international capital markets, totalling EUR 54.375 million.
The total amount of payments in March 2023 under the Euro bonds issued in 2015 and 2016 is EUR 1,245.325 million, including EUR 1,144.0 million principal and EUR 101.325 million interest.
As a result of the debt transactions in March, the government debt of the Republic of Bulgaria has decreased by approximately BGN 2.3 billion – from BGN 39.1 billion at end-February 2023 to BGN 36.8 billion at end-March 2023.
