Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova Meets with Ambassador Irene Maria Plank

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Lyudmila Petkova and the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany H. E. Irene Maria Plank discussed the opportunities for strengthening the traditionally very good trade and economic relations between the two countries. Minister Petkova confirmed that the caretaker government continued making efforts to fulfil the main priorities, i.e. accession to the euro area, full Schengen accession and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) membership. She expressed her gratitude for the continued support of the German side on our way to achieving these goals.
The Finance Minister briefed Ambassador Plank on the progress of the technical preparations for the adoption of the single European currency and said she expected that the draft Law on the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria would be adopted by the 50th National Assembly in the short term. The economic situation in the EU, the trade relations and the trade balance between the two economies, the levels of foreign direct investment and the opportunities for mutual contribution and development of key economic sectors were also among the topics for discussion.
