MINISTER OF FINANCE SIMEON DJANKOV IS PARTICIPATING IN A CONFERENCE FOCUSED ON THE LESSONS FROM THE GLOBAL ECONOMIC CRISIS

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov is participating today in the Conference \"The Way Forward: Central, Eastern, & Southeastern Europe\" in Vienna. The Conference is organized by the Joint Vienna Institute on the occasion of its 20th anniversary and co-sponsors of the event are the Austrian Ministry of Finance, the IMF and the Austrian Central Bank. The aim of the forum is to chart the economic prospects for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, and to discuss the region\'s future training and technical assistance needs.

Minister Djankov is participating in the session \"Lessons from the Global Economic Crisis\" where he is presenting the macroeconomic indicators of Bulgaria and the measures for fiscal stability taken by the Government. According to him the improved competitiveness of some countries in the region and the stable fiscal positions are prerequisites for long term economic growth. The Finance Minister is also discussing which growth models are best suited for the economies in Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe.

The Conference \"The Way Forward: Central, Eastern, & Southeastern Europe\" will feature also Austrian Finance Minister Maria Fekter, Polish economist Leszek Balcerowicz, former IMF Managing Director Jacques de Larosière, Austrian Central Bank Governor Ewald Nowotny, Thomas Wieser, President of the EU Economic and Financial Committee, representatives of the World Trade Organization, the IMF, the European Commission, the EBRD, as well as economists and academicians.
