MINISTER CHOBANOV MAKES HIMSELF FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEMS OF PUBLIC LIBRARIES

09.08.2013

The Minister of Finance Petar Chobanov met with representatives of the Bulgarian Library and Information Association who made him familiar with the present day problems of the regional, municipal and community centre libraries.

The need for setting up a working group of experts from the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Finance was discussed at the meeting, with the aim being to discuss and draft a final version of a Library and Information Service Standard laid down in the Public Libraries Law. The representatives of the Association made Minister Chobanov familiar with some of their research on the progress made in library digitalisation, as well as with the problems of public libraries related to the disbursement and allocation of mandate resources which had been cut considerably in recent years.

Minister Chobanov supported the efforts of the library officers across the country to preserve the literary cultural heritage and expressed his readiness to become the patron of any future initiatives in this area jointly with the minister of culture.
