International Network on Financial Education
The importance of financial literacy has been officially recognised by OECD member countries, with the launch of a global financial literacy project in 2002. In 2008 OECD established its International Network on Financial Education (INFE) to support work on the project. The Network's work has been recognised globally at forums such as the G20 and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), adopting a range of tools and research prepared by the INFE.
In implementation of one of the measures laid down in the Action Plan for the accession of the Republic of Bulgaria to the OECD (2019-2020), since April 2020. The Ministry of Finance is a full member of the INFE. This gives Bulgaria access to various international formats where good practices are identified and experience and information is exchanged in the field of financial literacy. Currently, nearly 300 public institutions (including central banks, ministries of finance and ministries of education and financial regulators) from over 130 countries and economies participate in the INFE.
The Ministry of Finance is the national coordinator of financial literacy policies in the country. In connection with their organization and implementation, an interdepartmental working group has been formed at the Ministry, which is responsible for the implementation of the National Strategy for Financial Literacy of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Action Plan (for the period 2021-2025) to it. More information about financial literacy and Bulgaria's policies in this area can be found here. As a full member of the INFE, the Ministry actively participates in the work of the network.
