Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov launched the construction works for the 3.4 km access road to border checkpoint \"Kapitan Andreevo\", part of Maritza Motorway. The construction of the access road will ease the traffic and the latter will move entirely outside the village, pointed out the Deputy Prime Minister. He assured that the experts of the Ministry of Finance will closely monitor the progress of the project as well as the compliance with the deadlines for its implementation. He expressed his hope that the section will be completed ahead of schedule. With the completion of the project border check-point \"Kapitan Andreevo\" will acquire its final appearance, said the Finance Minister to the media.

Contracting Authority of the site is the Ministry of Finance, in application of Component 2 of the Second Trade and Transport Facilitation Project, funded by the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and co-financed from the state budget. After two international procedures conducted under the rules of the World Bank we have signed two contracts: for construction works for the amount of BGN 21.1 million and for construction supervision together with an association for the amount of BGN 932 thousand. The period of execution of the construction works is 16 months.

The project envisages the construction of five large and complex facilities - bridges, overpasses and underpasses, a major road junction near the village of Kapitan Andreevo and branching of the motorway into four lanes upon entering the check-point, including an overhead road for the cars leaving Bulgaria. The construction of the access road will remove the crossing of traffic flows and will prevent congestion at the entrance and exit of the border check-point. The freight traffic crossing the village will also be avoided.

The ceremony was attended by the governor of Haskovo district Irena Uzunova, the mayor of the village, representatives of the contractor, of the construction supervision of the site and of the Road Infrastructure Agency.

Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister met with representatives of the Turkish customs administration. The reason for the meeting was the interaction between the customs authorities of the two countries.
