"Despite the strict austerity measures, the government's rating is high," Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov said in an interview for the Austrian newspaper Kurier. Djankov also commented Bulgaria's position on the adoption of the common currency. He specified that for the time being our country would wait to see how the fiscal union would develop and that we opposed to the harmonization of taxes. "We insist on our tax system as a condition for fiscal union", Djankov stated.

Bulgaria is "for" the single banking supervision to happen, but Bulgaria wants to be equally represented in the supervisory body that is connected to the ECB, like other Member States. "We want to have a place and a voice in it. Everything else would be discriminatory", Djankov added. If this does not happen there will be no EU banking supervision in our country. He thanked his Austrian colleague about thinking the same way and supporting Bulgaria's position.
