Education: 

Mr. Metodiev holds a Master's degree in “International Finance” from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He specializes in public financial management, deepening of the Economic and Monetary Union and the European framework for economic and fiscal governance. He has obtained qualifications and trainings in US, Austria and Belgium.

He is fluent in English and has a working proficiency of French.

Professional experience:

His professional career began in the non-governmental sector and later on joined the Ministry of Finance. From 2010 to 2014 he held various expert positions in the “Macroeconomic and Fiscal Management of the EU” department, subsequently promoted to the head of the department.

In the period 2015-2018, he was appointed to a long-term secondment to the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Bulgaria to the EU in Brussels, Belgium. During that period, he held the role of a head of the Ministry of Finance’s unit. In this capacity, he was member of the Working Party of “Financial Counsellors” to the Council of the EU. He was responsible for the preparation of the ECOFIN Council as well as worked on various dossiers in the area of EIB and EBRD mandates, Macro-financial assistance to third countries, deepening of EMU, InvestEU, etc. During the Bulgarian presidency of the Council of the EU, he chaired the Working Parties of “Financial Counsellors” and the “Multiannual Financial Framework”, where the latter launching the negotiations process on the MFF 2021-2027.

Subsequently, between September 2018 and December 2022, with a short timespan interruption, he held the position of Director of the „Economic and Financial Policy” Directorate at the Ministry of Finance. Subsequently, he assumed the role of Deputy Minister of Finance, and later on held the position of Director of the “European Affairs and Policies Directorate”, while also being a member of the EIB's Board of Directors.

In performing his functions Metodi Metodiev will be managing and coordinating the activity of the Institute for Analyses and Prognosis as well as the following directorates of the Ministry of Finance:

1. European Affairs and Economic Analysis Directorate

2. International Financial Institutions Directorate

3. Financial Markets Regulation Directorate
