Kiril Ananiev started working for the Ministry of Finance in 1980 after graduating in the specialty of Finance and Credit from the University of National and World Economy. He took all expert positions until becoming Head of State Expenditure General Directorate and Deputy Minister of Finance for three consecutive governments in the period 1998-2009. He was also Financial Policy Secretary for the administration of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria (2009-2011) and Counselor to the Office of the Prime Minister (2013-2014). Between August 2014 and January 2017 as well as May to November 2017 he was Deputy Minister of Finance. From January to May 2017 he was Minister of Finance in the caretaker government of Ognyan Gerdzhikov. For the period of November 2017 to July 2020 he was Minister of Healthcare. From July 2020 until May 2021 he was Minister of Finance. He was an MP in the45th, 46th, 47th and 48th National Assembly. He was deputy chairperson of the Committee on Budget and Finance at the 46th, 47th and 48th Parliament.

 In performing his functions Kiril Ananiev conducts the operational management and coordination the activity of the following directorates of the Ministry of Finance:

• Government Debt
• Centralized Contracting and Public Procurement
• Strategic Planning and Management of Capital Investments, State Participation and Concessions
